JEE Main is the first stage of the Joint Entrance Examination, the two-tier test for engineering undergraduate admission to 30 NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, State Government funded institutes, as well as a number of leading private universities and colleges. Maharashtra, Nagaland and Odisha have also joined JEE (Main) from this year:

JEE Main is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced Exam, which is the qualifying test to enter the coveted IITs. The conducting body of JEE Main is NTA (National Testing Agency).

Counseling:

JEE Main Counseling will be organized for all those candidates who have qualified the entrance exam and whose names have been shortlisted in the final merit list. The Counseling will be organized by the NTA (National Testing Agency) and CSAB (Central Board of Seat Allocation) in various stages in which the final admission is to be confirmed physically. Rest of the stages can be completed online on the official Counseling portal. 

Reservations/Quotas in NITs:

Home State (HS) Quota: In NITs, 50% of the seats are reserved for this quota.

Other State (OS) Quota: Nearly 50% reservation exists for candidates belonging to all other states and Union Territories (UT) excluding Home state for students of UT without NITs, full Home quota is applicable at the nearest NIT which is supernumerary over and above the HS quota of respective NITs.
